After loosing two cars to crashes with Ferrari the remaining #2 Audi took the race all the way to the checkered flag and won the race with a lead of 13,8 seconds over the 2nd placed Peugeot. This marks Audi’s 10th win in 13 years.

Alexander Wurtz drove the #1 Peugeot like a maniac, catching up with #8 Audi (in 2nd place) and just after passing apparently blew a turbo, puffing smoke out the back. As Wurtz drove the car into the pit lane, the car was pushed back into the pit box, leaving lots of oil on the ground. It looks like it died. Currently Audi takes positions 1 – 3 with just under 2 hours of racing to go.

Alexander Wurtz just passed Andre Lotterer in the #7 Audi, clinching 2nd position, just before blowing a turbo.

Update: Loic Duval was now catching up to the #7 Audi, making up about 3 to 4 seconds a lap. But 1 hour and 15 minutes bore the finish the #4 Peugeot was blowing fire from the rear. That’s the fourth (and final) Peugeot 908 HDi FAP that has retired due to reliability.

Update: With 27 minutes to go all 3 Audis make a pitstop at the same time.

24 minutes to go…

3 minutes to go (final lap)…

The last meters

And a triple finish

Audi takes 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

And the final classification:

It’s all Audi, baby

The LA Auto Show had the governator as one of it’s visitors. Now, it’s a public held belief that the civilian Hummer H1 owes it success to Arnold, so what could this do for the Audi R8 spyder / e-Tron?

Awhile ago there was a program called “Duels”, featuring Jeremy Clarkson and the Stig (of Top Gear fame ofcourse). At one point Jeremy introduces the R8 V10.

A Third Study Work : design of an Audi R7

I have designed this car as combination of low roof british classic body, a powerfull rear like the 911 one, and a muscle car neo retro approach founded in the latest american productions. The main idea is the inversed curv starting from front wings and fading to the rear wings arch. I aimed this car to be at same time old fashion and actual. The car is driven by a powerfull front track, with the old car independent font wings like the one of the current S-Class. The single frame had a higher curvature in the bottom part at the oposite of the real Audi one : this curvature give a more sporty look to the front. Rear lights are clearly inspirated from the Porshe 911 one.

The full work takes one month to complete. It’s a good time for full NURBS design and HDR vibrant rendering.

See here.

With Volkswagen’s impending take over of Porsche, the new combination might loose the name Volkswagen AG (or VAG for short) and be named Auto Union. Kind of a victory for Audi/Horch/DWK/Wanderer/NSU fans, although it’s just the name.

Still, funny bit of news, I thought.

Peugeot was supreme on the track and things didn’t work out too well for Audi this year. the #1 Audi had electrical problems, the #2 Audi has a massive crash very early on in the race and the #3 Audi suffered from problems after visiting the gravel traps.

This is the first time in 10 years that an Audi didn’t win (Bentley won a few years back had an Audi engine).
