FINALLY! After years and years of a decent F1 game, Codemasters will soon release their F1 title (on september 22nd). I can’t wait and I’ll probably just buy it blind.

I wonder if this is the game Lewis Hamilton and his brother played with Jake Humphrey from the BBC.

I feel as giddy as a school girl.

I once had the experience of a similar device. You can even feel under- and oversteer, it’s that amazing.

He might not be your favorite driver ever, or most favorite person ever, or be of the conviction that he’s not the best driver, but he’s without a doubt the most succesful F1 driver ever. Seeing him make a come back could prove to be very interesting indeed (and I hope it’s going to be interesting).

And with Ralph driving a Mercedes around the DTM tracks, that makes 2 Schumis that answer to Norbert Haug, who’ll now ofcourse not longer be seen in McLaren’s pitbox but in his own Mercedes GP pitbox (formerly known as Brawn GP).

Anyhoo, here’s what the official Michael Schumacher website has to say:

Michael to drive for Mercedes GP

“I have decided to return to Formula One. Mercedes GP and I agreed on teaming up for the coming 3 seasons. And to be honest, I’m already super excited by the prospect to be back in a F1 cockpit.

I don’t want to deny at all that the idea of a German F1 team extremely tempts me. I guess every German driver would feel this way. And of course it plays a major role that I again can work together with Ross at Mercedes GP. Above all, however, my old hunger for racing is back. In Abu Dhabi, when Ross asked me if I could imagine returning to F1, I felt that I wasn’t ready for it. But only two weeks later, when he called me once again, I realized that my old passion was returning. Suddenly I was on fire again. For me, the imagination to be back in a F1 car and to compete for the world championships is exciting and extremely inspiring.

That is why my thoughts initially go to Ferrari. I’m very pleased that the split-up goes off that harmoniously and that we are still on friendly terms with each other. I would really like to thank Luca di Montezemolo and the whole Ferrari team big time for the time we spent together and for giving me the opportunity to leave Ferrari in friendship. It’s such deeds that make up a true friendship, as even though the contract has not yet been signed, we had promised each other to further cooperate by shaking hands. I will always carry a big part of Ferrari in my heart and I will never forget the sympathy and passion of the ‘tifosi’. They supported my all over the world with their devotion – thank you very much for that!I didn’t take this decision lightly at all, especially because of that. Ferrari and I have been working together for 14 years and I’ve experienced a lot of great moments with the team during this time. Most of my life as a Formula 1 driver is ‘red’ and so there is strong solidarity and loyalty to these guys who have accompanied me and have always built great cars for me. This solidarity will remain, even though our teams will be competitors on the race track – because I’m certain that Ferrari will regain its former strength since the crew is really strong and committed.

Mercedes GP will be a new challenge for me which is extremely attractive. I have no doubt at all that the team will be really strong. They showed by winning the two world championships that there is meshing a fascinating mixture of high professionalism and deepest passion. The relation between the competence of Mercedes and the current world champion team is extremely attractive and promises a good performance. I think the duels on the race track will be electrifying. Especially since I’ve got the feeling as if, for me personally, the circle closes after all the years I spent in Formula One. I concluded my first ever driver’s contract with Mercedes – back then in Group C and Le Mans – and Mercedes also supported me when entering the F1.

Until recently, I was absolutely sure that I had ended my career as a race driver at Ferrari. But sometimes things change suddenly and unexpectedly. All of a sudden, the framework conditions aren’t the same anymore. At that point, you have to reconsider the decisions you’ve made. And, to tell the truth, the failed comeback attempt last summer gave me reason to reconsider my situation. I was surprised myself how fast and how strong I committed myself to this topic again. Apparently, my batteries recharged completely during the last three years. And when – thanks to Ross – the opportunity arose to drive for Mercedes GP, I realized that my old motivation was back, full of fresh energy and great force.

Physically, I feel absolutely fit. I already realized in summer how fast I achieved my former performance values by exercising specifically. And ever since, I kept on exercising. My neck is absolutely free of complaints. I can now do the same neck work-out as I did when I was still racing. This wasn’t possible in summer because back then only five months had passed since my accident and so my neck wasn’t cured completely. In the meantime this isn’t a problem any more.

I absolutely enjoyed my current life in those three years, doing a lot of things. There were no bored feelings or something like this, I was doing Karting and Biking without big hazzle. Now I am geared up to compete on a serious level again. I know that my change of mind happened rather suddenly and I think it’s great that Corinna appreciates my passion and that she absolutely backs me and my decision. When I told her about my plans, she immediately felt that I am serious about it and she instantly gave her approval.

To put it simply: I’m totally fired up for next year!

Jenson Button secured his claim on the 2009 Formula 1 championship, as did Brawn GP with their claim on the 2009 Formula 1 Constructors’ championship.

I’m sure everyone who cares saw the race.

Consequences of bike-injuries make return impossible

“Yesterday evening, I had to inform Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo and Team Principal Stefano Domenicali that unfortunately I’m not able to step in for Felipe. I really tried everything to make that temporary comeback possible, however, much to my regret it didn’t work out. Unfortunately we did not manage to get a grip on the pain in the neck which occurred after the private F1-day in Mugello, even if medically or therapeutically we tried everything possible.

Michael is to return to driving an F1 car in races for the first time since his retirement at the end of the 2006 season. He has agreed to step in on a temporary basis from the European GP 2009 – to replace injured driver Felipe Massa. Indications are that Massa will not be able to return to racing this season, which could mean Schuey competing in the final seven races of the 2009 season. His step back into the cockpit was confirmed on Wednesday 29 July by both Ferrari and Schuey himself.

As the most successful F1 driver ever, Michael is sure to make a big impact on his return. Although he has not had the benefit of extensive testing of the car this season, and his fitness levels may not be at the level of when he was competing – he has the advantage of not having raced the first half of the season so could be less fatigued than the rest of the field. Fortunately the summer recess means the next race is not until 23rd August, allowing him time to prepare more fully, familiarise with the car and increase his physical fitness levels. Whilst the Valencia street circuit was not on the calendar when Schuey last raced he previously proved a quick learner of new circuits. It will be the first time recent winners Hamilton and Vettel have raced the legend.

A return to racing by Schuey is something his fans could only have dreamed of – let alone in a Ferrari. It goes without saying that Massa is wished a full recovery from his unfortunate accident.

Ferrari statement:
“Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro intends to put Michael Schumacher in Felipe Massa’s car untill the Brazilian driver will be able to race again. Michael Schumacher said he is ready and, over the next few days, will undertake a specifc training programme at the end of which confermation will be given of his participation in the Championship with effect from the European Grand Prix on the 23rd of August”.

Michael’s statement:
“The most important thing first: thanks God, all news concerning Felipe are positive. I wish him all the best again.

I was meeting this afternoon with Stefano Domenicali (Ferrari Team Principal) and Luca di Montezemolo (Ferrari President) and together we decided that I will prepare myself to take the place of Felipe. Though it is true that the chapter Formula 1 has been closed for me since long and completely, it is also true that for loyalty reasons to the team I cannot ignore that unfortunate situation. But as the competitor I am I also very much look forward to facing this challenge.”

BMW to exit Formula One at end of 2009 season.

The BMW Group will not continue its Formula One campaign after the end of the 2009 season. Resources freed up as a result are to be dedicated to the development of new drive technologies and projects in the field of sustainability. BMW will continue to be actively involved in other motor sport series. The landmark decision to restructure BMW Motorsport’s activities was made at the Board of Management’s meeting yesterday (28/7/2009).

“Of course, this was a difficult decision for us. But it’s a resolute step in view of our company’s strategic realignment”, explained Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG.

“Premium will increasingly be defined in terms of sustainability and environmental compatibility. This is an area in which we want to remain in the lead. In line with our Strategy Number ONE, we are continually reviewing all projects and initiatives to check them for future viability and sustainability. Our Formula One campaign is this less a key promotor for us. Mario Theissen has been in charge of our motor sports program since 1999. We have scored a large number of successes in this period, including some in Formula One racing. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mario Thiessen and his team for this”, said Reithofer.

Renault suspended from European Grand Prix
Renault will miss the next round of the championship for allowing Fernando Alonso to leave the pits with a wheel not properly secured during Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

A mistake attaching the front-right wheel at Alonso’s first stop led to it coming loose from the car once the Spaniard had returned the track. He limped back to the pits but was subsequently forced to retire due to resulting damage.

Budapest stewards decided Renault had been negligent in failing to secure the wheel, in knowingly letting Alonso leave the pits with the problem, and in failing to inform their driver of the issue.

Renault are to appeal the decision. Should that appeal fail it means Alonso and team mate Nelson Piquet will not participate in the European Grand Prix on August 21-23.
